Associate Special Agent in Charge (A/SAC) La Verne J. Hibbert is a 24-year veteran of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) who was appointed to the Senior Executive Service (SES) in November 2020. Ms. Hibbert is responsible for overseeing all enforcement, regulatory, intelligence and administrative functions for the Miami Division which encompasses 14 offices in the state of Florida. Ms. Hibbert was previously assigned as an Assistant Special Agent in Charge in the DEA Philadelphia Division Office. Ms. Hibbert directed High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Enforcement Groups, a Tactical Diversion Squad, along with managing the Technical Operations Group and the Administrative and Fiscal Unit. Ms. Hibbert was also a Group Supervisor at the Dover Delaware Post of Duty where she directed enforcement operations in Central and Southern Delaware.
Ms. Hibbert previously held leadership positions at DEA Headquarters as Deputy Chief of the Special Agent Recruitment and Hiring Section where she directed recruitment and hiring efforts nationwide and was responsible for hiring over 500 Special Agents. She also served as a member of the Board of Professional Conduct where she reviewed investigative files from the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) and proposed discipline recommendations. Ms. Hibbert’s first supervisory assignment in 2006 was at the Office of Investigative Technology where she supervised the global work of polygraph examiners. Among Ms. Hibbert’s accomplishments was the digitization of the program and instituting a mentoring program for all new polygraph examiners. In 2003, Ms. Hibbert graduated from the National Center for Credibility Assessment (NCCA), formerly the Department of Defense Polygraph Institute (DoDPI), as DEA’s first African American, female polygraph examiner. Ms. Hibbert was assigned to the Washington Division Office where she conducted suitability, counterintelligence, and criminal polygraph examinations.
Ms. Hibbert began her career with the DEA in March 1997 at the Long Island, New York District Office. Ms. Hibbert later transferred to the New Haven, Connecticut District Office where she was assigned to an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) targeting Drug Trafficking Organizations in the New England Region.
Associate Special Agent in Charge Hibbert is a member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). She is also a member of the National Association of Black Narcotic Agents (NABNA). Ms. Hibbert dedicates her time to her family, mentoring students, and professionals as well as participating in community outreach events. Ms. Hibbert earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Master of Professional Studies from the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT).
